First event trial run

So Chewie had his first outing :-)
Cant begin to explain how awesome it felt!!

Chewbacca cold breathing

Finishing up!

So the time has come for pretty much the final post before my FIRST outing as Chewie in public!

We e made a hair net for Chewies head to keep his hair in line, added padding to the tongue and chin. I've weathered the bowcaster and finished the final wire wrap on the stock.
Adding hair to the knees, cut 2 wedges out of the trouser bell bottoms to make them more fitting to the stilts.
Adds more hair to the shoulders, made a pocket on the front of th undersuit to hold the speaker...

It's pretty much done now!!

Thanks everyone for help and advice so far, most of which to my wife Steph who worked with me on most parts which I would have never been able to do!!

Prison binders

Thought this would be a neat little idea for a bit of fun at the cons.. So I made some binders..

Well, I'm half way there.. Pics later..

Update : these are now made. They are a quick fix bodge for fun, but they do the job!

Just need a quick spray now..

Making the head comfy

I'll be updating this as I go, but I've been updating the head fittings so it's comfortable... After all I'll be wearing this for a while!

So far I've passed the top more. This means the whole mask sits further up.. That way it takes the weight/pressure off of the nose

I also added some padding to the back of the tongue. My chin sits against this and that is what allows me to open the jaw

Fixing the bando

So one trick idea I had was fixing the bando to the suit....

It annoys me when I bend down and the bando swings around, so I put some snaps (poppers) on the back of the bando and matched them to the suit. This also stops it from wanting to slide off my shoulder. A massive help as it means no dog collar is needed!

It sticks to me now and they aren't visible

I think I'll add another to the back of the shoulder to help it there too..

Trimming the arms..

I've always observed Chewie to have slender arms. I've also noticed that he has more fur around the wrists, a look I wanted to imitate.

Using my trusty Anakin the mannequin - I trimmed the arm hair that hangs down so it will give the illusion of vein slightly shorter than the wrist/hands. Not a lot taken off but just enough to tell ;-)

Weather that leather!

Not one for the fresh out of the box look, I like Chewie from the OT.. Filthy and worn!

So my bando needed ageing..

Tools:
Dark tan polish, cooking oil,180 grit sand paper, and a shoe polishing brush.

Before:

After:

Then I did a little on the bando itself

End to end, right hand side is much older looking, worn, shiny areas and rough scuffed areas.

Widening the tache

So the last little bit of punching to do on the tache, the cleft area!

I had previously silicone glued the hair up to the centre, but always meant to punch the last few rows in and add to the nostril/nose area to make a more realistic finish

Starting to add some in :

After I did both sides and hair sprayed those suckas down!

You can see they are up to and just inside the nostrils now and towards the eye

Tweaking the toes :-)

So I'd noticed the toenails were a little white... So I've made them more natural... And filthed them up again!!

Before

After

Much better!

Foot bump solution

So this is a long standing issue for stilt wearers... The transition from your toes to the stilt toes... It creates a bump in your leg which looks unnatural...

Here's my solution

Bandolier part 2

So I noticed the bandolier strap rings we'rent accurate..

I personally think they used O-rings but you just can't tell

Left Is original

Right is my newly updated accurate version of the belt ends.

I then installed 3 snaps every 3 boxes so that when I put the bando on I can click it to the body suit

Little billy goats beard!

I've noticed in ANH from the side that Chewie has a kind of goatee

So I've copied that idea :-)

I then decided I would do some dental world, and cut off the end of the tongue at the back of the mouth.
This bit was rubbing against my chin, not something I'd usually admit to!!

Trial run!

So the head is almost finished.. Testing out the suit this weekend!

Bandolier accuracy

So I'm updating that bando!

Improved, more screen accurate you cry?? Damn straight it can be improved!

Here's how I've adjusted mine tonight

Original

Marking out using OT photos

Cut using very sharp Stanley

Trimming the grey part 2...

A minor update... Trimmed the nose to forehead grey hair and the around re forehead grey right down. Still not enough yet but I need some hair spray and hair brushes to start the girly stuff.

Being a burly mans man I dot own that sorta kit ;-)

This Helped assure me I was going in the right direction and it was coming along ok :-)

Wednesday 8 October 2014

Trimming grey facial fur

So I attempted two things tonight...adding more hair to the eyes and trimming the grey on the nose and tache.

There are rolled up papers in the eyes to help the hair glue to the edges

Looks great! Still needs stylig etc, but potentially I can see this being perfect!

Still needs a little grey trimming from the nose, but it's hard to tell until they have been combed and blended :-)

Tuesday 7 October 2014

Moustache and nose - the greys!

Ok so I've been doing a little tache work. ;-)

I decided to blend a little extra brown into the tache mix just to keep it s little more natural

I use this sculpting tool to spread a really thin layer of silicone

So managed to glue both sides, up to the cleft centre - where i will later punch a small amount of hairs in for effect

Then I did the same to the top of the nose. This will be trimmed right down later
